Sussex always bring a good team on their long trip to Dorset, and today was no different. Once we had managed to sort out the scoreboard with the help of George behind the bar (in the absence of A Hardy), Sussex got off to a flier and after 3 ends were over 30 shots up. The match was hard fought but played in good spirit:
After 5 ends the score was 20 – 46, Dorset starting to come back from their slow start, to be 26 shots behind
After 10 ends the score was 57 – 62, with Dorset continuing the fight back
After 15 ends the score was 79 – 100, Sussex digging in their heels and pulling ahead again by 21 shots
A great match finished 112 – 134, Dorset losing by just 22 shots, and sharing the rinks with 3 wins each. Both teams enjoyed the battle, and look forward to facing up to each other next year on 18th March at Arun.
Special mention must be made of the new caterers at the Dolphin, as this was their first County meal for 50+ players and visitors. There was nothing but praise for the meal, thoroughly enjoyed, and appreciated, by all. Well done.
Jo Dearlove once again organised the raffle, and other than the fact that Sussex won all the prizes, was another successful contribution to the County purse. She received a donation of 6 bottles of wine today, from an anonymous County player, and would certainly appreciate any other suitable donations in the future.
